GIMP 2.10 Tool Preset Fixes

Description

Looking to fix your GIMP 2.10's default tool presets? I was too as I liked some of them and seen the aspect ratio, spacing and softness of brushes were strangely off from what they should be, making them not function correctly. "Airbrush" and "Glow Lights (Addition)" has a hard-edged circle that should be soft, "eraser hard" is a very hard square and not a slightly softened rectangle (ironic it was intended to be softer considering the name) to imitate a block eraser's rub mark, "Bristles" has too wide of spacing and looks more like dots trailing each other than actual bristles, etc... So I fixed them using the old version's code as a guide. It took a little while, so I realized this would be a nice time saver for people if others were looking to get back preset effects they liked quickly. So download, replace and have fun! If you don't know how, here are some explanations:

While not all were affected, for the sake of convenience, I just copied over the entire tool-presets folder I set up on my GIMP so you can replace the broke defaults with ease. You can find where it's located at C: > Program Files > GIMP 2 > share > gimp > 2.0. Assuming you didn't make any custom ones of your own and all the ones in them are in the default configurations, just delete (or move out) the "Tool-Presets" folder and replace it with the one I set up in the download (after unzipping the package of course). If you made any tool presets, really you probably know what you want to do with your setup anyway which makes this section moot, lol!

I have no idea why some of them even got that way, but my guess is that they were an oversight and they forgot to remake them for 2.10's new tool preset system (and code). Why I figure this is because the "structure" preset still exists in the presets that come with GIMP, but the brush ( www.littlewebhut.com/gimp/brus… ) does not in the default set. Sort of. They moved it to the "Brushes > gimp-obsolete-files" brush folder where GIMP just doesn't read it (along with a bunch of older brushes you may be looking for from earlier versions). So I presume they determined it wasn't all that useful, moved the brush out, but forgot about the presets in said oversight. I just removed the Structure preset in mine since I figured that they didn't intend on keeping it and thus it is not in this pack.

But if you "really" still want to use it because you found it useful for something, just move the Structure preset out of your "tool-presets > Paint" folder before replacing the broke presets with mine, then dropping it back in the Paint folder. Then you move the structure brush out of the "gimp-obsolete-files" brush folder and in to the "Texture" folder or whatever you'd prefer. See, the Structure preset itself is not broken last I checked, it just acts broke because it no longer has a brush for it to use by the name "Structure" and defaults to a circle that gets it's aspect ratio changed. Check the brushes to see for yourself.

I bet that they will fix or revamp the presets in some future update which will outdate this, but until then...

Enjoy!

-As of GIMP 2.10.20, they seem to have fixed the bugs involving misreads of certain perimeters of tool presets. But they did not update the default tool presets from 2.8. So they still won't work out of the box and you'll need these updated ones to get the regular defaults back.

I also fixed a couple of presets in the Crop and FX folders which didn't load for some reason. Remaking them to update them to the new code so they work again seemed to be the only option. I'm not sure what version they stopped loading in though. Maybe I just never noticed they were missing from the get-go because I rarely used them?... Hard to say and I'd rather not install an older version just to check as I like my current setup. Feel free to experiment yourself though as the originals seem to have come with every 2.10 installation.
